When should I bring my new puppy in for its first grooming?
Ideally, a puppy should have its first groom by the time it is three months old. However, it is required that all puppies be up to date with their series of shots, so please check with your vet to make sure your puppy is up to date and safe to be groomed.
Why does my puppy need to be groomed at such a young age?
The reason for this is to familiarize your puppy with the grooming process. It is important that a puppy’s first grooming experience is a good one so that they will be happy to come back in the future. Some breeds will require grooming every six to eight weeks. The earlier you start having your dog groomed, the more comfortable it will be, making it easier on your pet and the groomer.
What can I expect for my puppy’s first grooming?
Your puppy will not receive a full body haircut the first time it comes in for grooming. What they will get is a hypo-allergenic bath and coat conditioner, be hand blow-dried, brushed out, have their nails trimmed and ears cleaned, and the hair around the face, feet, and private area trimmed.
